A Better Life Therapy’s training program collaborates with universities around the country to support the development of student therapists through a rigorous training program.

A Better Life Therapy trains student therapists each year by offering real world experience with individual, couple, and family clients. During the program, intern therapists:

  • Meet with a Senior Staff Therapist weekly to discuss their cases, present video, and receive feedback on their clinical skills.

  • Have the opportunity to meet with multiple supervisors throughout their time in the program. This allows students to receive training in a number of areas. Supervisors include therapists trained in couples therapy, EMDR, ACT, CBT, DBT, Eco-Systemic Therapy, Medical Family Therapy, and more.

  • Complete the internship support program which provides guidance on topics like taking effective progress notes, treatment planning, and therapist self-care.

  • Complete A Better Life Therapy’s 1-year Couples 101 training.

  • Receive group supervision so you can learn from your peers who include not only members of the program but also senior staff therapists

  • Join monthly Couples Therapy Case Consult Groups.

Therapist Training Program Staff

Therapist Training Program Overview

Our program reflects a biopsychosocial approach to understanding human behavior, viewing the behavior of individuals, couples, families, and larger systems as the result of an interaction of biological, psychological, and social factors. It also reflects a commitment to training therapists to be aware of and sensitive to issues of cultural diversity and their impact on family functioning and the therapeutic process. Overall, we take a systemic approach to our trainings and train our clinicians to look at the issues individuals, couples, and families are facing through the lens of their overall environment.

The Program requires 16 hours of in office work a week. At least 10 of those hours are utilized for direct client therapy sessions. Other hours may be used for other clients, case notes, meeting with your supervisor or attending trainings. Students receive weekly individual or triadic supervision which is based on direct observation, videotape, or audiotape.

All interns receive their training in office at either our Philadelphia or Main Line location. Clinical experience is through both face-to-face client care and the utilization of Telehealth.
